The first time you visit us at Mira Vista Dental, Dr. Ellis will take the time to learn all about you and your healthcare needs. You’ll discuss your health history, past dental experiences, and any related anxieties you may have about dental care.
We’ll discuss treatment options thoroughly to promote safe, informed decisions, and we never pressure our patients into treatment they don’t want or need. We encourage you to take an active role in your oral health!
Your First Visit
When you come in for your appointment, you can be confident we won’t rush you or your care. Because of the time we commit to each patient, please reserve approximately 90 minutes for your first visit with us. We’ll start by taking a set of x-rays so we can have a comprehensive view of your entire mouth, including the roots of your teeth and your jawbones.
Next, you’ll receive a periodontal exam to evaluate your gum health and screen for gum recession. If your gums look healthy, without any swelling or deep pockets, we will continue with a preventive cleaning. Finally, Dr. Ellis will discuss your oral health needs and smile goals to determine whether you could benefit from any type of restorative treatment.
Healthy Gums, Healthy Body
If during your exam our team discovers evidence of gum disease or inflammation, we’ll be required to take a different approach. We treat each patient’s specific needs, so before regular oral care, we’ll need to help you achieve healthy gums. If we notice gum inflammation on the day of your visit, we’ll perform a full debridement and schedule a deep cleaning for another day. Your gums are the foundation to your entire smile, so keeping them healthy is important to your overall wellness, cardiovascular system, respiratory health, and more.
